Charlie Mackesy
Born in Northumberland in 1962, Charlie Mackesy confesses to spending most of his youth running around the hills with sheep. Although he didn't receive any formal training in art, he spent time working as a cartoonist for The Spectator magazine, an illustrator for Oxford University Press as well as illustrating adverts for local papers and posters for corporate clients. This experience led to his first exhibition, in a pub, in 1980. In 2003, he exhibited alongside Nelson Mandela at The Belgravia Gallery in London. Charlie's vast range of subject matter includes Jazz, angels and musicians, and portraits.
